🔍 AI in Action - Behind the scenes of the AI-Driven culture at Zapier

This week we turn the spotlight to Zapier, a global leader in the automation space. Zapier connects over 3,000 web apps, allowing individuals and businesses to automate tasks and workflows through a concept they call "Zaps." A "Zap" is essentially an automated workflow that connects your apps and services to automate tasks.

All 700 employees at Zapier have their own Zapier account and are actively encouraged to build Zaps! This approach comes from one of their core company values: "Build the Robot," a mantra that encourages every employee to seek automation and efficiency in their tasks. This innovative approach also extends to AI, with each employee having an OpenAI account to use ChatGPT. Let’s take an insider look at how different teams within Zapier are leveraging generative AI.

Revenue Ops

The Revenue Team uses generative AI to make their internal communication smoother and quicker. They've set up an AI 'zap' that collects all Slack mentions and sends a personal summary to everyone. Plus, they've got an AI bot on board that answers questions about revenue operations called Rev-E, making it super easy for the team to get the information they need. This is how it looks like:

Support Ops

Zapier's Support Operations uses AI to make their job easier. They use AI tools to sort and summarize customer tickets, which makes it simple to give useful feedback to the product team. It even pulls out stories from the tickets, giving a clear picture of what customers need. Plus, with the help of customer sentiment analysis, they can tweak responses to fit how customers are feeling.

They've also got an AI-powered virtual assistant that's helped cut down ticket conversions by 8%. And even though they're using AI, they're not trying to replace people. They're just using AI to do their work better and serve their customers in a better way. To top it off, their team built an internal tool called 'ZenGPT' that works with Zendesk. It helps sum up tickets and write emails right within Zendesk, making things run even more smoothly. Here’s a screenshot of ZenGPT:

Sales and Customer Success

Zapier's Sales and Customer Success teams are also getting a boost from AI. The AI comes in handy for creating content and writing copy, as well as summarising emails and helping to draft responses. This means they can get their messages across more effectively and in less time.

The AI also assists with lead scoring, helping the team figure out which potential customers to focus on. Plus, it can classify and sum up sales calls, making it easier for the team to understand the main points and take the right next steps. It's all about making their work quicker, simpler, and more efficient. Here’s how they summarize sales calls, checkout the prompt:

They also built a tool that gives a one pager for a customer for any need in the company. You just enter the email and account ID and get this summary:

External Communications

Lastly, Zapier employs AI to draft press releases. They've even gone the extra mile to make this tool publicly available. Check it out here.

In conclusion, Zapier shows us how AI can make a real difference in all sorts of teams and tasks. It's all about making work faster, easier, and better for both staff and customers.
