HubSpot, a leader in marketing and sales software, is leveraging generative AI to boost operations. As their CEO states, "We're ambitiously integrating AI across our entire CRM platform." This innovation is showcased in their AI tools, ChatSpot and Content Assistant, and adopted by the HubSpot Blog Team.
ChatSpot, developed by HubSpot's CTO Dharmesh Shah, is a unique natural language chat interface that communicates with software, offering a more intuitive and direct method of interaction, replacing the old step-by-step approach. Initially a side project, it has now become an integral part of HubSpot's product line. You can learn more about it from Dharmesh Shah's introduction to ChatSpot.
Here are some of the ways HubSpot is using ChatSpot:
Sales and CRM Use Cases: ChatSpot can quickly add contacts to the CRM, complete with details and follow-up tasks, using a single natural language prompt.
Reporting Use Cases: ChatSpot can create reports based on natural language queries. For example, it can generate a report of companies added in a specific quarter, grouped by country.
Marketing Use Cases: ChatSpot can provide a monthly summary of web visits, generate keyword research data for SEO, and even draft blog posts. It can also generate images in various styles for these blog posts, using a visual style library.
Integration with HubSpot CRM: ChatSpot can save reports directly in the HubSpot CRM, allowing users to customize them using the full power of the HubSpot report builder.
Voice Interaction: ChatSpot introduced a voice interaction feature, allowing users to verbally issue commands to the CRM.
Content Assistant, on the other hand, uses generative AI to assist users in drafting emails, blog posts, and other content. Here's how HubSpot is using Content Assistant:
Content Creation: Users can input a topic, and the AI will generate ideas, an outline, or even a full draft. The tool can also rewrite, expand, summarize, or change the tone of existing text.
Email Drafting: Users can input the product they're selling, the target audience, and the main message, and the AI will generate a professional email. The generated email can then be customized and saved as a template for future use.
Integration with HubSpot Tools: Content Assistant is integrated with other HubSpot tools. For example, it can create content within HubSpot's blogging platform.
AI-Powered Research: Like ChatSpot, Content Assistant can conduct research on companies, pulling in data from various sources to provide a comprehensive overview.
The HubSpot Blog Team is also leveraging generative AI in several ways:
Research and Content Creation: The team uses AI to learn about topics faster and to brainstorm topics or research ideas. However, they always do their own follow-up research to ensure the information is accurate, and to limit potential biases.
Drafting and Outlining: AI is used to create the first draft of an article, but not the final copy. This greatly reduces the time spent writing, allowing writers to focus more on the creative process.
Brainstorming: AI acts as a brainstorming sidekick, providing new perspectives and creative ideas that the team hadn't previously considered.
Video Creation: The team is experimenting with AI-generated videos for their blog posts, using tools like Veed.io, a video editing software with AI tools built-in.
Meta Descriptions, Social Summaries, and Email Descriptions: AI is used to quickly figure out the right messaging to promote content, including creating meta descriptions, social summaries, and email descriptions.
Here’s an example of how they use ChatSpot:
Despite the extensive use of AI, the HubSpot Blog Team maintains a human-first approach to content creation. They promise to always leave a disclaimer on any post that has been AI-supported or AI-generated, even if it has been human-edited. They believe that AI can't replace the humanity behind marketing, and they won't try to.
