🔍 AI in Action - Walmart’s new AI Playground

Walmart is a global leader in retail that champions a culture of exploration. Their latest focus is on the innovative potential of generative AI, which they are keen to incorporate across their operations.

Emphasizing its value in improving productivity, Cheryl Ainoa, EVP New Businesses & Emerging Technology at Walmart Global Tech, revealed that Walmart has been investing in AI for several years. An example of this investment is the creation of Converse, a conversational AI platform uniquely trained to understand the nuances of retail language in the context of Walmart.

Recently, Walmart revealed the creation of "The Walmart GenAI Playground." This internal tool allows Walmart's associates to safely learn about and experiment with GenAI, without compromising company data. The GenAI Playground provides access to various GenAI models, enabling associates to see how each one responds differently to the same prompts. This platform demonstrates Walmart's commitment to bringing AI into the company's fold.

Leveraging AI's proactive capabilities, Walmart uses the Converse platform to create a smoother, more efficient customer experience. Converse currently powers 22 global products, including chatbots that resolve issues in record time and text-to-shop features that allow customers to easily add items to their cart. The company is excited about further development and expansion, with plans to introduce a new tool for Walmart U.S. merchants and enhance the Decision Assistant pilot for a transformative search experience on Walmart.com.
